The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) protracted strike, according to Rivers State governor Nyesom Wike, is the result of individuals being chosen who are not committed to finding solutions to problems.
Although it is acknowledged that the problem behind the
strike is a complex one, in his opinion, the disagreement might have been
resolved with proper communication.
However, Governor Wike, a former minister of state for
education, urged ASUU to reconsider some demands since, given the state of the
economy, no administration could match the union's high expectations for
payment all at once.
At the Government House in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Wike gave a speech as three pieces of legislation were formally signed into law.
